Dear Sydney and Family, We got to know Ruby after she moved back into the area. Her retirement must have been most enjoyable as she met so many of her long time friends. Sydney saw to it that she was well cared for. Our sincere sympathy to Sydney and family. Lorraine & Grant Cameron
Brenda and I have much to be thankful to God for in regard to Ruby Hay. I (Bob) first met her when I wandered into the Calvary Book Store looking for a Bible, just a week after recieving Christ as Savior and Lord. Not only did she sell me my first Bible, she invited me to join Calvary Church, which I am very thankful I did, starting that very next Sunday. Just one year later she brought a friend to Calvary she had met while working with ISI in Washington D.C. Brenda Lee was resettling in NYC to work with the Genesis Project and needed a church and a place to stay. Not only did Ruby open her home to Brenda while she got established, she brought her to a Cavary choir rehearsal and introduced us to each other. We know she was primary among those who prayed and encouraged us through the four years when God was preparing us for a lifelong relationship. Brenda and I were married in Washington D.C. in 1981 and Ruby traveled from NYC to attend the wedding. We have served the Lord with joy and thanksgiving in a variety of ministries ever since; thirty-six years this September! We thank our amazing God for all Ruby was in our lives.
Dear Sidney & Hay Family. We are thinking of you all with deepest sympathy at this sad time. Ruby was such a beautiful lady inside and out. Always enjoyed chatting with her. She will always be remembered.
We never knew any of Ruby's family, although she often spoke of Sydney when Brenda lived with her on Cabrini Blvd. in upper Manhattan. Please accept our thanks and shared grief that she will no longer be shining her light in this world. It is a testimony to God's love for her that the Holy Spirit led us to be praying and thanking God for her this morning and then to look her up on Facebook to find the news of her passing. God bless all who gather to celebrate and remember her remarkable life!
From our many memories of her at
Hephzibah we wish to share the following memory
We remember Ruby as a delightful lady whose faith
In the Lord shone brightly through her life.
What a blessing she was to us and no doubt to many others.
Ruby was always looking to help ministries. The Christian Mission for the United Nations Community benefitted in numerous ways from Ruby's help. One of the most fascinating officials we had the privilege of ministering to was an official she first met while working in the Calvary bookstore when he stopped in while visiting New York. This official was the closest to a Daniel we have ever ministered to. Ruby is a very special sister. We will miss her, but we know we will be re-united. Thank you for blessing us, Ruby!
I just happened to check my old e-mail address and found this news of dear Ruby's passing. My condolences to her extended family and friends. I trust, she is now with her Lord in Paradise. I first met Ruby at Calvary Church in New York city and was impressed by her joyful laughter and caring heart for internationals. If my memory is correct she also served as executive secretary to the President or Field Director of ISI=International Students, Inc. Then, the Lord led me to serve full time with ISI while in NYC, Boston and then moved to Toronto to continue my mission work with ISMC. Now, I am fully retired but still carry on networking with ISI and my international friends around the world. Please notice my new e-mail address above and keep in touch, as the Lord leads you. Praise the Lord for giving us that Living Hope for eternal life through the Lord Jesus Christ. Praises be to His gracious Name. Joseph (Joe) Sabounji
Dear Sydney and Family, I was sorry to hear of Ruby's passing. I know our mom really appreciated her, and Ruby was always friendly whenever we'd see her. She will be missed. We're thinking of you at this time of parting. What a joyful time for her, though, as she sees her Lord and reunites with those who've gone before her. 'Til we meet again, eh?
Thinking of all of you at this time. She was a lovely lady! Hoping that wonderful memories comfort you at this time.
Ruby was a great Godly lady... love to have talks with her when we saw her... she will be greatly missed...Sydney and family may the Lord encourage you and comfort you in your loss but great to know we will meet her again as she is waiting with our Lord Jesus Christ!! :)
I came to know Ruby at Calvary Baptist Church in New York City. She managed the church bookstore and was a cheerful witness for the Lord to all who would come into that store. Grateful for her life and testimony.
