Condoléances
Dear James, Valerie and Families. It is will heavy heart that I send my deepest sympathy in the loss of Al. Ruth, Gordon, Ryan, Cameron, Derek and Robyn(Toot-the-flute Al's nick name for Robyn) Howes
When birding with my Dad you had to make sure you were the one driving.
Val, my deepest sympathies on the loss of your dear father. The ladies at Heritage will surely miss the twinkle in his eye and his warm smile. Thinking of you and your family at this difficult time.
I am so saddened & shocked to hear of your loss. I worked with Al many years at Duplate/PPG and had great respect for him. I have fond memories of his bird sighting stories, his home grown carnations, and the story of how he and your mother came to Canada after they married. How brave they were.
Our deepest sympathy in your loss. If there are birds in heaven Al will be watching & feeding them. We had many good visits at the Heritage. Joye & Jim
The Bird lover that my Dad was, he followed Loch of Lowes Wildlife/Ospreys which is in Scotland. Here he enjoyed reading the daily updates of Ospreys while they were nesting.
I'm so sorry Val, My deepest condolences go out to you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all., Stay strong!! Your father was a good man. Take comfort knowing he's in a better place. Luv ya and take care :)
Valerie, I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. I'm thinking of you and sending hugs. Love, Kim
I was sorry to hear about Alasdair, saying a pray for you and your family
Val I'm so sorry for your loss. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family. If you need anything please don't hesitate. Again I'm so sorry.
Working for Duplate (PPG) Dad was sent to Mercedes-Benz to investigate why the windshields were scratched. It didn't take Dad and his colleague long to find the problem, so they spent the rest of the week touring Germany.
Friends of Bonnechere Parks - Directors' Award
Alasdair Fraser: Recipient 2007
Alasdair Fraser was chosen as the very worthy recipient of the 2007 FBP Directors' Award for his keen interest in sharing and recording the scenery, people and events along the Little Bonnechere River. His quiet manner, graciousness and kind ways enriched many of the Friends' gatherings.
Al and his late wife Margaret first came to the Park on a regular basis when son James became Park Superintendent in 1987. While Margaret preferred to sit on the deck and enjoy the scenery of Round Lake, Al would walk the beach, hiking trails and roadways, photographing the flora and fauna that define this natural oasis.
Since the mid-1990s, when the FBP and OAS Ottawa Chapter introduced archaeological programs along the Little Bonnechere, Al was ever present as the recorder of our history. (And official tea-maker) He used both video and still cameras to capture the locations, participants and findings of the many public digs.
My deepest sympathy Val to you and your family. Your father would come and share his love and knowledge of birds with my Girl Guide unit. The girls would always enjoy his visit and fondly called him the bird man. He will be greatly missed.

I believe Bonnechere was one of Al's favorite places to be. I remember his great sense of humor. He had so much knowledge of the birds of the area. He was a treasure.
