Bruce was one of the kindest gentlemen I have ever met. I got to know him more in the last few years as he stopped to chat and encourage me in his own delightful way. He worked with my uncle Thomas at NORDA and to this day some everyday smells conjure up memories of pepper and other sweet spices that take me back to the many people who worked there.

My sincere condolences to the Barton family. I went through VCI with Bruce but never had much conversation with him. Never the less, he always had time for a smile and you felt that it was friendly and sincere. I did not see him for many years but when he heard that I had moved to Vankleek Hill, he took it upon himself to walk down my street until such time that I was out shoveling snow and recognized him and called out "Hey Bruce". We were happy to talk to each other. He was one of those people that you felt comfortable talking to. and he usually had a joke to relate as he strolled away. The community has certainly lost one of its finest members.
