Sincere condolences to Ruth. the Allen families. the Steele families and friends. Happy memories of John with his smiles and laughter will always bring a smile to your hearts.
We were proud parents of two beautiful puppies that came from John and Ruth almost 15 years ago, and we got to know John through the years as the kind man that he was, and with memories of visiting the farm with the dogs. John and Ruth were very patient with us when we asked them to baby sit our dogs Sophie and Cody, even when Cody scared the cows and the cows ran off in all directions and it took hours to get them all back.

As a kid, there was nothing I looked forward to more than the epic Allen/Steele family camping trips. Uncle John and my dad would tirelessly drive the boat around the lake pulling us kids on a myriad of water-sport equipment. Sitting around the campfire, Uncle John’s laughter was infectious. Especially when he fell through the lawn chair on which he was sitting. I remember this happening every year, but it might have only happened once :). Uncle John was one of kind and a positive and loving presence for all the kids like me that were lucky enough to grow up around him.
Auntie Ruth, Shelley, Andrew and Janice; we are so sorry for your loss. Our hearts and thoughts are with you during this very difficult time. Love to you all.
Keri, Billy, Celia, Luke & Esme
Uncle John was there for a lot of my youth on the farm. Long hours on the tractor and very hot haymows! The highlight would be when he would treat us on a hot day with trip on the Ottawa River with his boat! Thank you for looking out for us and all those life lessons Uncle John.

I just remember his energy. He filled a room with brightness. My condolences to you all.
My deepest condolences Ruth, Shelley, Andrew, Janice and families. Many fond memories will keep his legacy alive. Two that come to mind for me, was his trusting of my tractor driving skills at a young age as he built loads of hay, and I have often shared the story of Uncle John driving Grandma Allen to Sunday School and swinging by our house to load up us kids in whatever his favored vehicle was at the time. I know he will continue to watch over Allensite from above.
My deepest sympathies to the Allen family. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

My deepest and sincerest condolences to Ruth and all of John's family. I will never forget his wonderful smile even when dealing with flooding the church basement during the Brownie sleepover, or agreeing to be fed corn on the cob by me while blindfolded. Deepest sympathies to Ruth, Shelley, Andrew, and Janice and families,
How we will all miss Uncle John, and my heart aches for all of you on this immense loss. Deepest sympathies. I've been thinking about the many ways he has touched my life growing up on Allensite Farms. His funloving nature always gave us reason to smile and laugh when we crossed paths. He howled with laughter when I was learning to drive standard ... stalled a farm vehicle 7 times on the hill leading up to his house, while he watched from the front yard! Unloading haybales on hot summer days with him and Grandpa taught me perseverance, and a few good lessons about fashion sense for farm work! I was proud of the halter tops I made to wear unloading hay in the heat, but learned the hard way that the redness and scratches from the hay and sun were worse. All of that craziness gave him a huge laugh. We sang together with great joy ... in the Cassburn UC choir, and the Singing Farmers. I will always remember, and am grateful for, so many happy times. Hugs! Kim and family

My dear friend Ruth and family, my deepest condolences. John had an awesome spirit here on earth and now heaven has an angel. I can only smile when I think of John. My memories are 99% laughter. He was certainly a dear friend and I will miss him dearly. My 1st memory was when John volunteered to drive me to Alfred because I locked my keys in my car at Cassburn church. His big heart made me feel safe and cared for just with his eyes and smile. I will miss you my dear friend. That was the day we became very close friends and led to Ruth being my best friend, sister in Christ. What a blessing to have met you.
