Frank, Katie, Brittany and Andrew,
My prayers and warmest wishes go out to all of you during this time of grieving for Shelby. I still remember the day in the hallway at St. Martin School when Shelby and I had a heartfelt conversation. Shelby told me about her MS diagnosis and I told her about my own MS (diagnosed in 1984) which I had kept secret from everyone at that time. Shelby was totally shocked at my revelation. Shelby would keep my 'secret' until I went public with the news in '96 when my body had a meltdown. We would often have further discussions not only about MS, but about religion and faith, her children, relationships, etc. These would occur in those same hallways or on the back deck at your house. I always remember Shelby as full of life, with a great laugh and being truly devoted to her family. Such good memories!
FYI I am still managing with the MS, though I experience diminishments in small stages. I stopped teaching 11 years ago because of my fatigue. I use a cane to help with my balance and the legs aren't what they used to be. . Cathie and I are still here at Selim taking care of our patch of this earth. Please know that a donation to Wilkes Terrace is being made in honour of Shelby. I would love to attend a service for Shelby in Terrace Bay when it is held. Please keep me informed. Thank you.
