Nécrologie de Jean Higginson

Helena Jean (Stevens) Higginson

Born October 27, 1925 to Samuel and Helena (Sproule) Stevens in Hawkesbury, Ontario, and died peacefully February 20, 2020 in Stittsville, Ontario having lived a happy and full life. Loving wife of the late Ernest V. Higginson; beloved mother of Connie (Stewart) and Ernie (Marie); dear grandmother of Jonathan, Janet (Chandler), Emily (Mike), and Sarah (Shawn); and proud great grandmother of Grady, Penelope, Lorelei and Porter. Devoted sister to the late Samuel Stevens, Mary (Stevens) Smith and George Stevens.

Jean lived most of her life in Vankleek Hill, Ontario. She delighted in her friends and family, especially her grandchildren, and her many gardens and greenhouse where she tenderly coaxed seedlings into blooms. She filled her ‘quieter moments’ by making crafts and baking for the Carp Farmers’ Market, owning and operating a florist shop, growing African Violets, collecting antiques, and crocheting. She was a dedicated member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Vankleek Hill where she volunteered in the ACW, as a warden, treasurer, and Sunday School superintendent, and was a proud presenter at the 1981 consecration of the late Bishop Edwin Lackey. Jean also helped create many wonderful memories for young people by volunteering summers at Camp Pontiac and for the Young Voyageurs Centennial program.

Jean’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Country section in Granite Ridge, Stittsville for their wonderful care this past year, and before that to the staff and PSWs of Symphony Kanata.

As a child looks forward to the coming of the summer, so could we contemplate with quiet joy the circle of the seasons returning without fail eternally.
