Nécrologie de Laurel Kathryn Bates

After a brief battle with pancreatic cancer on Wednesday, November 27,2019 at the Carefor Hospice Cornwall Laurel Bates (née Carkner) of Vankleek Hill passed away at the age of 60 with her family by her side. Predeceased by her parents Keith Carkner and Mabel McCaskill. Loving wife and best friend to Glen Bates. Caring, proud and devoted mother to her daughters; Robin (Kurt MacSweyn), Erika (Danny Duval) and Stephanie (Cody Allard). Special Grandma “Lo Lo” of Duncan, Finley and Thomas who will miss her very much. Dearly loved sister of Margo (David Impey), Al Carkner (Patricia) and Linda (Scott Ray).  Sadly missed by her sisters-in-law Heather Kirby (Michael) and Wendy DaDalt (Paul). Fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews. Laurel worked as a Pharmacist in Alexandria for many years until her retirement. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  Laurel was always on the go, whether she was travelling, at yoga class, going for walks, skiing or spending time at the cottage reading a good book.

A Celebration of Laurel’s Life will be held on Sunday, December 1,2019 at the Vankleek Hill Curling Club 136 Bond Street, Vankleek Hill from 11 am to 2 pm. Laurel loved to be active, one of her passions was cross country skiing, a donation to the Ski-Vent-Clic c/o Karl Holmes 2730 Maplewood Drive, Hawkesbury, Ontario K6A 2R2 or to the Pancreatic Cancer Canada Foundation Suite 508, 36 Eglinton Avenue West, Toronto, Ontario M4R 1A1 would be appreciated.
