Nécrologie de Rita Ghey

Rita Ghey, a beautiful soul who touched the lives of many, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at the age of 90.

Born in Nagpur, India, on July 8, 1933, Rita's life journey led her to England at the age of 14, where she met her beloved husband, Peter who was also born and raised in India.

Rita worked as a nurse as their love story blossomed and after Peter moved to Montreal, Canada to work for Canadair she joined him to marry on February 18, 1956.

Their love and devotion resulted in three cherished children, Ruth (Jake Barrett), Jonathan (Ruth) Ghey and Frances (Gary Baxter) and a legacy that includes thirteen grandchildren Naomi, Nathaniel, Hannah (André), Matthew (†), Lydia (Daniel), Esther, Brendan, Andria (Shawn), Devin (Brianne), Katie (Nick), Casey, Sara and PJ (†) and 7 great-grandchildren.

Rita is predeceased by her husband, Peter, her brother, Teddy (Tess) Milner and her sister, Maggie (Charlie Berry). She is survived by her sister June (Ken Francis).

Rita's life was defined by her unwavering faith and love for others. Her devotion to the Lord was evident through her volunteer work with the Catholic Women’s League, her involvement in RCIA programs, and her guidance as a spiritual director.

Beyond her spiritual endeavors, Rita was a beacon of warmth and kindness, renowned for her incredible hugs and an infectious, impish smile. A master storyteller, she captivated her grandchildren’s hearts by recording tales from her childhood in India on cassette tapes for them.

Her passion for writing extended to poetry, essays, and short stories, earning her accolades and recognition. Yet, her most profound literary achievement was "A Rich Inheritance," a labor of love chronicling her family's history and generations in India, a testament to her dedication and love for her dear mother Kathleen Milner.

Rita Ghey's departure leaves a void, but her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched with her love, faith, and captivating stories. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire generations to come.
